Hi all, anyone else getting this recently? When launcing the various apps from the start menu managed users are seeing this UAC errror. What is happening is on first launch as each user a separate msi is being ran from C:\Windows\Installer. Sadly this does seem to be per user so doesnt help to pre-lauch each app once as admin post install. Have any of you seen the same issue and have you have any success in finding a fix? Student School email accounts

Hi, Just looking for a bit more advice, just wondering what restrictions other schools have on Student school email accounts? such as a whitelist for emailing etc...? We currently dont have anything in place here and the account is open for them to use similar to a personal account. At my old school we blacklisted students emailing in and out other than a while list. This was setup from years prior to me starting there and worked well for the security side of things. Would be great to see what other schools do. Regards

Smoothwall - Really poor support

I dont know about you guys but smoothwalls support have gone really downhill. takes a few day in 1st line and always goes to 2nd line. from there they barely respond with the least helpful information. I barely have any SLAs met. Switched over to cloudfilter in January but it's not what I expected at all. Is it time for me to move on once my renewal happens, any recommended partner to move over to? I mean usually you lose out by going with the cheapest and this is probably one of the most expensive out there. You do not get what you pay for!

Bromcom SMTP - 365 oAuth

Anyone else successfully setup the Office 365 SMTP service? I'm having trouble so far.. Upon clicking "grant access" in Bromcom you get met with this error. The app in entra is a "multi tenant" application, so I cannot make any changes to it from my end, ticket open with Bromcom support.

Redstor renewal - gone wrong

This should have been a simple exercise. Redstor renewal, incumbent more expensive, switch MSP. MSP knows the existing redstor account details all should switch over. Then we lose access to redstor when old contract date ends. Redstor support say all our admin accounts have been removed from the account (the account still exists and has data) but they cannot add users - only the new MSP can. New MSP says Redstor needs to add access as they cannot. Im now stuck in support limbo, both sides pointing the finger to the other. Im getting twitchy that I have no access (luckily I have other backups for recent disaster recovery but Redstor is my longer archive). Any Redstor MSPs here that can prod me into "what to say to who" in order to get one side fixing my issue?

Classroom Clocks

One of our schools wants new analogue clocks for the 70+ classrooms. WIthout going into details of behaviour etc, consistency and having the clocks being correct is importtant so before they've gone and bough 100 or so standard clocks I recommended RCC ones, albeit being more expensive. Can't do anything crazy invasive or overkill like PoE, so thinking RCC battery analogue clock faces is the way to go unless there's a more modern solution? I believe the RCC mast etc is still like and isn't looking to be phased out like RDS etc?

Hi all, I think our photography/art department are being hard done by having to use our managed print solution Kyocera devices for their exams & coursework. They should, in my opinion, have a dedicated photo printer for this purpose. Had reasonably good experiences previously with the Canon Pixma range, but also quite like the Epson Ecotank systems too. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good quality photo printer and decent running costs? Absolutely no HP subscription tripe! Networked preferable. I don't know what the quality is like on the Ecotanks, I've only used them so far for dye-sub printing.

Im trying to find a way to prevent students from viewing network information at the sign on screen. The information when you click the clock at the bottom of the sign on screen is what I'm talking about. This information is blocked AFTER sign on but I also need it blocked at the sign on screen. I've search for the setting in Google workspace but cant find what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Hi, I needed to get which of the following settings, and with which values, are applied live on a server. The needed settings are : SeInteractiveLogonRight SeRemoteInteractiveLogonRight SeDenyInteractiveLogonright SeDenyRemoteInteractiveLogonRight It seems I'm achieving it by doing : Secedit /Export /Areas User_Rights /cfgSecedit /Export /Areas User_Rights /cfg c:\undirectorio\gpo.txt Later by checking the file I achieve my goal. I normally check too this other command file generated : Secedit /Export /Areas SECURITYPOLICY /cfg Secedit /Export /Areas SECURITYPOLICY /cfg c:\undirectorio\gpo.txt They seem to give me what I need even when for instance "SeDenyInteractiveLogonright" is set in the local gpo and set too in a gpo applied to the OU where the server belongs. The behavior is the expected one. I get in the secedit output the value set in active directory GPO in the OU. So, my question basically is... is this way the correct one of achieving my goal of getting dump in a plain text file the live settings of the policy applied to the virtual machine?. I can have only a local gpo or could have a local gpo (with default values or not) and later n number of gpo applied at different levels in active directory (site, domain, ou... etc...). So the real question is, my secedit command should give me what I'm trying to get and then to have live seetings in the machine (after all gpo at differrent levels are applied) ?. I have seen too that there is a flag /mergedpolicy but it seems to just output then those values that I have applied at local policy and too at active directory policy?. Am I wrong?. Just got back from a 3-night break in London. Had a great time with my 2 girls doing all the touristy bits and catching a show.. although still sweat over a £8.35 pint of beer. Yesterday we decided to visit Hampton Ciurt without realising how long it would take from our boat stay in the docklands.. we went over tower bridge which was cool. My youngest got the pilot jelly cat from Harrods. My eldest spent ages in the huge Waterstones, and i came back with a broken pinky after thinking i could still throw my daughter in the air safely. I thought it was just bruised but Ive made a right mess and it needs wiring together. This message is a good test in how hard it's going to be to type as its my dominant hand. No driving either, so I need to thumb a lift.. that finger works )

Is anyone running WhatsApp for school use? We're thinking for Invigilators, as they only have their own phones, no school device, and no staff email account or Microsoft licence. We've had a no phone policy implemented generally for staff, but also no non school accounts. It's making the Exam invigilator/regs almost unworkable....

SIMS - 44% price increase in one year

Last year we paid in the region of £Xk+vat for all our sims modules. This year Parentpay have invented new packages, and moved modules into more than one so you are forced to purchase different packages to retain the same functionality. So Assessment is within 'Optimise' but Lesson Monitor is within 'Engage'. That's an extra approx £Yk please (total is now over approx £XYk). Obviously almost every school will be using at least those 2 core items. They are an unbelievable company. Can't believe there's not an outcry about this; God knows how they can do this - what are contracts for?
